January 2021 Newsletter

Happy New Year! We spent much of last year introducing Blue Marble Evaluation to our members and friends. Now that we have built a foundation together, we plan to offer a number of opportunities for you to deepen your engagement with one another and with the principles of BME. Read on for more information about what is coming up in the next month and stay tuned for more to come. As always, if you have and idea, resource or opportunity you’d like to share with the network, please let us know!

Upcoming Webinar

Principles-Driven Responsive Philanthropy:

Building Bridges Across Communities for
Peace, Prosperity and Planet

This webinar will provide an in-depth look at how one foundation applied Blue Marble Evaluation to their work. Hear from Mark Guy and Mary Dalsin from the GHR Foundation, and Nora Murphy Johnson from Imagine to Change, about how they applied Blue Marble Evaluation principles to GHR’s BridgeBuilder Program. The webinar will be based on a recent case study written by Nora Murphy Johnson, available here.
Tuesday February 2nd @ 4-5:30pm UTC
Please note that we have allotted 1.5 hours for this webinar, which will be our format for the whole year. This will allow more time for Q&A and small group interaction.
If you missed any of our 2020 webinars, all of them were recorded. You can search and find the recordings here.

New on the BME Blog

A Guest Post from Elena Bonometti following our Conversation with Tostan
In November, we heard from Tostan CEO Elena Bonometti about the alignment between their work and BME principles. If you missed that webinar, you can watch a recording here. There were a number of important questions raised during the webinar and not enough time to answer them all, so Elena graciously provided additional responses in a recent blog post. Check it out here.

Perspectives on Precedents: Viewing 2020 in a Larger Historical, Cultural, and Political Context
In this diablog, Kim van der Woerd and Michael Quinn Patton address the use of the word “unprecedented” to describe 2020 and the historical erasure inherent in its application to a context that is all too familiar to many indigenous people. Click here to read the full post.
