Earth Day Evaluation Declaration Launch
Earth Day 2024 offers an opportunity for evaluators worldwide to affirm our collective professional commitment to systematically include environmental, social, and economic sustainability and regeneration criteria in all evaluations.
In October 2019, at the conclusion of the Third International Conference on Evaluating Environment and Development, participants unanimously adopted a “Global Declaration on Evaluation for Transformational Change.” That Declaration, called the Prague Declaration, included strong support for further work on transformational evaluation to be undertaken in partnership, exploring power relationships and promoting inclusiveness, and articulating both rights and responsibilities.
On the occasion of the 4th Conference on Evaluating Environment and Development in March 2024, the Conference brought forth an updated draft, which is still being developed and openly reviewed. We have taken one of the ten items in that draft Declaration, the statement on Evaluation for Sustainability, and expanded that as a free-standing statement of commitment for review and invited endorsement.
On Earth Day 2024, we invite you to join colleagues, networks and organizations worldwide in declaring our commitment to include context-specific environmental, social, and economic sustainability criteria in all evaluations.

Geeta Batra, Director of the Independent Evaluation Office (IEO) of the Global Environment Facility.
