Blue Marble Evaluation
May 14th, 2021
Blog post
On May 15th, the United Nations recognizes the International Day of Families. Blue Marble Evaluation is not just a network or an evaluation approach, we are a family of over 570 people committed to transforming evaluation to evaluate transformation. If you have not yet become a member of the Blue Marble Evaluation family, we hope you will do so. Membership remains free and open to anyone. Click here to join. As we look ahead to the second half of this year, we are looking closely at how we can best support our existing members to deepen their practice of Blue Marble Evaluation, as well as to continue to build demand for this important work.

Celebrate 10+ Years of Developmental Evaluation - contribute to the first-ever index of USAID DEs

It’s been just over 10 years since the launch of Dr. Patton’s landmark book, Developmental Evaluation. Developmental Evaluation (DE) has come a long way since then, and as such we are excited to share an initiative by Social Impact and their USAID/Indonesia DE Jalin team to create an index of all DEs  conducted at USAID since 2010.

SI and DE Jalin recently partnered with Blue Marble Evaluation to launch their Remote DE Guide. When asking participants what more they wanted to learn about DE, 71% of respondents (many of whom were USAID staff) asked, “Is there is a comprehensive list or study of all DEs ever implemented?” Not yet – which is why Social Impact is asking for your help.

If you or anyone you know has participated in a USAID DE (as an evaluator, manager, implementer, or other stakeholder), consider responding to their brief survey here.

SI and DE Jalin also encourage you to share the survey with those in your networks who may have DE experience. SI and DE Jalin look forward to sharing the brief results with Blue Marble and other like-minded groups in the hopes of advancing future DE planning and implementation.

Please submit your responses by Friday, May 21st . For any questions on the survey, please contact Dom Margiotta.
